Will it rust?
Thank you for your purchase of our M Ogden Putter. We sincerely hope it improves your scores.
A few notes about maintenance of your new putter. The putter is hand milled from 1018 carbon steel, then heat treated and finished in an oil submersion bath producing the beautiful oil can finish. The finish will help to protect the putter from corrosion but if left in a wet condition the putter will rust. To avoid corrosion, we recommend the following simple steps.
If you are playing in wet conditions, wipe the putter head down after each use before returning it to the headcover.
At the end of the round dry the putter completely and make sure the interior of the headcover is also dry before storing it. IF THE PUTTER IS LEFT IN A WET HEADCOVER FOR JUST A FEW DAYS SURFACE RUST WILL START TO FORM.
Also, at the end of the round, we recommend you wipe the putter down with some lightweight oil. Included with your purchase is a rag bag. Spray the rag with WD 40 or liquid wrench. Putter Butter available from Golfworks.com also works very well. Store the rag bag in your golf bag and at the end of each round dry the putter and wipe it down with the rag. The oil may lighten the putter color slightly. This is perfectly normal, and it will return to its natural color as the oil dries off.
At the end of the season spray the clubhead down with a generous portion of light weight oil before storing for the season.
